Q. On decreasing the price of T.V sets by 20%, its sale increases by 10%. What is the overall effect on the business?

TLT: -20%+10% + 10% of (-20)= -12%

Think like That !!! (TLT-2)

Q. The average age of six persons is 12. On addition of 1 more person, the average increases by 1. The age of the new person?

TLT: 12+(6+1) X 1 = 19

Q. How many numbers are there in 500, which are divisible by 3 and 7?

TLT: L.C.M of 3 and 7= 21 500/21→23.80→23 (Quotient) =23

About TLT

TLT technique helps the aspirants of competitive examination in speedily answering the Quantitative Aptitude questions. To answer Quantitative Aptitude questions through conventional methods is time taking and therefore, not appropriate in such exams. TLT techniques teach us to think differently on the same problems which you are used to solving through traditional means. This technique is a combination of unique thought process and use of increased calculation in mind to answer without the use of pen/ pencil comparatively in a short time.

Use of TLT

To use TLT technique, you require to follow the following three steps:

Step-I: Hands-on calculation part and remember them by heart.

Step-II: Hands-on use of the basic concept of 4 vehicles used to solve Quantitative Aptitude questions which are Algebra, Fraction, Ratio & Proportion and Percentage.

Step-III: Practicing the TLT technique given in details in the “Mathematics” menu.

Algebra

Q. Ten years ago a man was six times as old his son. After nine-year the man’s age will be more five to twice that of his son. Then find the present age of the man.

TLT: Let, present age of son= x

So, father – 10 = 6(x-10)

Father = 6x – 60 + 10 = 6x – 50

6x – 50 + 9 = 2(x +9) +5

6x – 2x = 18 + 5 + 50 – 9

4x = 64, x (Son) = 16

Father = 6x – 50 = 6 × 16 – 50

= 46 Ans.

Fraction

Q. A man gave 1/3 part of his income to his wife. Remainder 1/4 part gave his daughter and 1/2 part of the remainder gave his son and donated the remaining amount. If the donated amount is Rs.5000, what is the income?

TLT: Let, Income=1

Wife=1/3, left=1-1/3=2/3

Daughter=2/3 X 1/4=1/6, left=2/3-1/6=1/2

Son=1/2 X 1/2=1/4,

left=1/2-1/4=1/4(donation)=5000

Income=5000 X 4=20000

Ratio & Proportion

Q. A bag contains 1 rupee, 50 paise and 25 paise coins in the ratio 1 : 2 : 8. If total numbers are coins 216 then find the numbers of coins and amount of coins of 25 paise.

TLT: Ratio of coins= 1 : 2 : 8

Ratio of above coins in Rupee =1Rupee:50Paise:25Paise =1:1/2:1/4

Ratio of amount = 1 × 1 : 2 x1/2 : 8 × 1/4 = 1:1:2

:(1+1+2)=216, :1=216/4=54

Total 25 paise coin=8X54=432

Amount 25 paise=432/4=108

Percentage

Q. On the decrease in the price of sugar by 10%, 6.2 kg more sugar is available in Rs.279. What are the new price and the old price of sugar?

TLT: Let, original price=100%

As per old price,10% of 279= Rs.27.90

Therefore, the new price of 6.2kg sugar will be Rs.27.90

As per new price, the price of 6.2kg=27.90/6.2=Rs.4.5

As per old price, 90%=4.5. 100%=4.5/90=Rs.5

New Price=Rs.4.5&Old=Rs.5

Based of Percentage

Q. A student secures 23% marks in an examination but fails by 36 marks. Another student secures 35% marks which are 48 marks more than the required to pass. What is the percentage of marks and marks required to pass?

TLT: Let, Total Marks= 100%

35% – 23% = (48+36)

i.e. 12% = 84

So, 100%= 84/12 X 100

= 700 Total

Pass Marks= 700 X 23/100 + 36

= 161+36 =197

Shopkeeper Discount

Q. A shopkeeper allows a discount of 25% and 15% on the written price and another shopkeeper allows a discount of 30% and 10% on the written price. Which discount is profitable for the customer?

TLT: Let, Full price= 100%

I> 25% and 15%= 25+15-25 X 15/ 100

= 40-3.75= 36.25%

II> 30% and 10%= 30+10-30X10/ 100

=40-3= 37%

II Discount is more profitable.

Train & Speed

Q. A and B are two stations 500 km apart. A train starts from A and moves towards B at 20 km/hr. Another train starts from B at the same time towards A at 30 km/hr. How for from A will they cross each other?

TLT: Speed is prop to distance

Speed Ratio=20:30=2:3

So, Distance Ratio=2:3

:(2+3)=500, i.e. :1=100

A’s distance(:2)=2X100=200

B’s distance(:3)=3X100=300

So, trains will meet 200km from A

Q. A started a business by investing Rs. 1200, after 3 and 6 months B and C joins the business with unequal capital if the end of the year the profit was distributed in the ratio 2:3:5. What is the share of B?

TLT: Profit Ratio ABC=2:3:5

Time Ratio ABC=12:9:6=4:3:2

Capital Ratio=2/4:3/3:5/2

=1/2:1:5/2=1:2:5

A(:1)=1200

B(:2)=2400

C(:5)=6000
